Greetings, Eaters and Readers!
I’ve been coming to The Mill for lazy Sunday afternoons for a while now, insisting Martha come with me for a blog writing session. So we’re here doing that now, composing our review on Juke’s Ale Works.
With home base and five locations in Lincoln, The Mill only has one location in Omaha. And it just might be THE cutest coffee shop in all of Omaha. At least, in our opinion it is.
When you walk in, you’re met with shelves on shelves of fun merchandise on your way to the counter. Employees are quick to greet you and take your order. What I love about their service is they make your order right away before moving onto the next customer. No waiting for your name to be called. In all the times I’ve been here, I’ve never waited more than 2 minutes for my order.
The seating is aplenty. Tons of two-seater tables and a sprinkling of larger ones. Peaks of gold pop nicely in this largely brick and wood building. One wall in particular is made of floor-to-ceiling books, all organized by color. To say The Mill is ascetically appealing is an understatement. And Martha mentioned she’d love to steal (erm, buy) one of the dark green velvet plush chairs that belly up to the bar.
Speaking of bars, did you know The Mill operates as one in the night time? We’ve yet to visit during the evening hours, but plan to see how the second half operates one of these days.

House Black Iced Tea ($4) | Iced Coffee with Cream, Toasted Marshmallow and Cookie Butter ($4)
As a tea-only drinker, I’ve yet to stray from their house black on ice. It’s no frills, but smooth and refreshing. I order it every single time.
Martha was impressed with the long list of flavors you could add to your coffee. Spiced brown sugar, honey, Irish cream, dragonfruit, chocolate fudge, peppermint, blackberry, strawberry, hazelnut … just to name a few. She ordered toasted marshmallow and cookie butter to mix into her iced coffee with cream and it was a delightful combo.

Chocolate Croissant ($4) | Chocolate Hazelnut Pastry ($4)
One of my favorite things to order here is their homemade pop tarts. And they sell out fast. I’ve only been lucky enough to get it once. If you ever find yourself in a position to get one, do it.
On this particular visit, I got a chocolate hazelnut-filled pastry and Martha a chocolate croissant. They usually ask if you want your pastry warmed up – always say yes.
My hazelnut treat was equal parts flakey and doughy, gooey and delicious. I couldn’t tell you what those tiny brown sprinkle-looking things were on the top of the pastry. They were light and crispy and I’m not sure they added much in flavor. But they make it prettier to look at, eh?
Martha loved her chocolate croissant and also appreciated the offer to warm it up. It was messy, and she says she probably should have grabbed a fork or just shoved it all in her mouth.
Final Bites
The Mill on Leavenworth is a perfect place to study, catch up with friends or even go on a date. Whether you want to sit inside or out (they have outdoor heating elements!), this large-but-cozy coffee shop has a spot for everyone. And with oodles of drink options and fresh, warm pastries – it might become your new favorite hangout, too!
Cheers!
